I read with interest the letter in your most recent catalogue which described in some detail the difficulties you have encountered recently with your “supply chain” and the difficulties some of your vendors have been experiencing, which have in turn created difficulties for you. I thought it was a particularly effective letter, and as a customer I appreciated reading it and seeing how the endless ripples of the pandemic continue to interfere with the smooth sailing we all have come to expert as a “given” in our economy. Dear Bob, You will not remember me; but you happened to stop by the shop last Summer when I was there for the first time. I just shopped in person at Ben Silver for the third time last weekend. I had an investment Committee meeting at my alma mater, Wofford College; so, I called Mimi and told her that I was in the neighborhood and would drop by. Mimi, Allison, and the rest of the staff have just been wonderful–tremendously helpful as I have totally revamped my wardrobe. They are very forthright and honest with their opinions–which i have come to value highly–as to what choices of color, etc. best suits me. Van is a wizard and can make anything fit! We are at the point now where Mimi and I look at something in the store or I just call and mention a picture on a certain page in the catalog; Van does her magic; and the finished product appears on my doorstop. As a native South Carolinian this is the clothing I wore growing up. As a young adult I shopped at Brooks Brothers and later had my suits and shirts custom made by them. But, sadly, that is a great American company that has lost its way. I am so glad to have discovered Ben Silver. Please accept my gratitude for the ties which were recently delivered. It is not only the substance and feel of the silk, the high quality detail work on the crested ties which make them so distinct; but the construction of the tie which is so impressive. Such quality construction not only produces a nicely worked knot, but also gives the silk a wrinkle resistance,which is a difficult combination to achieve. Such solid body and inner construction in a tie not only provides a more wrinkle resistant tie, but gives the neckwear a longer life. This demonstrates that a cheap tie is never a bargain, as a tie made to your fine standards of quality can be confidently worn for many years longer than its cheaply made cousin.
